Our workshop groups are small to give each participant plenty of one-on-one time with the instructor and shooting time with the models. After a PFP Workshop, you will have access to our staff and instructors, because we know that going home from a workshop can be overwhelming and questions arise after the workshop that you need answered. 4th of July Fireworks

Love of country is like love of woman -- he loves her best who seeks to bestow on her the highest good. ~Felix Adler

Oh Say Can You See by the dawns early light... The Star Spangled Banner Lyrics

Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country. ~John Kennedy

4th of July

The true test of the American ideal is whether we're able to recognize our failings and then rise together to meet the challenges of our time. Whether we allow ourselves to be shaped by events and history, or whether we act to shape them. ~Barack Obama

There is something magical about standing behind the camera and watching the long exposure of a firework pop up on the LCD! It is capturing something that happens so fast and freezing it. I don't see fireworks the same way that I capture them and I think that is the magic of capturing the. Does that make sense to anyone but me?

Postcards From the Edge...

Tuesday, June 23, 2009

Does anyone but me remember that movie? I love postcards and summertime just seems to draw me into postcard shooting mode.

“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature.” -Hellen Keller

Well, it is summertime. Folks seem to be pulling out the cameras left and right to capture that all the wonderful memories! This past weekend was Father's Day and we hit the road - hoping for some cooler weather up north. Now in a house like ours that has --- how many cameras? --- you would think that we'd never miss a shot. Well, images from this weekend are sparse. Since this was not a planned trip - I had taken my camera to the shop which meant that I could give king of the Castle's new Rebel T1i a spin. Well - charging the batteries is something that the King had forgotten to do and we left the battery charger at home! So - not a lot of images. I did capture this one of Prince Charming and Princess-in-Training at the top of Look Out Mt in Tenn. To me, this is what summertime snapshots are all about - fun! The images I did capture were with my i-phone and wow! That little camera really has it all going on - so we have enought images to scrapbook about our little get away!

I Believe I Can Fly!

I have gotten lots of comments on flickr and several people have asked how I shot this. Well - it is Tuesday and here is a tip - FLASH! Yep - Anyone who knows me knows that I am a Pocket Wizard junkie! I love flashes but what I love is that "OMG - I would have never known that you were using flash" look on folks face when I tell them. The fact of the mater is - this shot would have been darn near impossible without flash - and instead of the whole two minutes I spent on it in Lightroom - well - it would have taken longer to make look good - and hey - it is summer! Spending time agonizing in Photoshop is just not how I want to spend my summer! So - shoot it right!

For this image I have a Canon 580 ex ii Speeedlight sitting on the ground to the right of the camera and I am blasting it at full power through a Lastolite 3x3. I gives me perfect illumination on both kids. Cool huh! I am reading Joe McNally's new book The Hot Shoe Daries and got my inspiration from there. Speaking of which - the little guy in the frist image on the flower was shot with two Speedlights in softboxes - and the result is that the first image is SOOC - except for the square crop! So - while summertime is also summer reading time - I would grab Joe's new book and be inspired! Oh and repeat the mantra - my flash is my friend :D

Church Pew - What a great prop!

Thursday, June 18, 2009

True religion is real living; living with all one's soul, with all one's goodness and righteousness. ~Albert Einstein

When the world says, "Give up," Hope whispers, "Try it one more time." ~Author Unknown

"Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising every time we fail." ~ Confucius ~

If one dream should fall and break into a thousand pieces, never be afraid to pick one of those pieces up and begin again. ~Flavia Weedn, Flavia and the Dream Maker

I found this 200 year old church pew last Sunday when we popped into an antique store and immediately fell in love with it! I saw so many great possibilities for family pictures ~~~ which I will get to try out later tonight with Randi's family! I drug it out to my little vacant lot and played!

I am now available for sessions in July and August. Please contact me about setting up an appointment.
